Case Study

MY Amels 52

An ambitious refit project including hull lengthening with new beach area construction plus an almost complete interior refurbishment in just 6 months

The 6-month refit of MY 52m Amels was a hull lengthening project with new beach area construction. Scope of work included the extension and conversion of the existing lazzarette in order to realise a luxury beach area, opening upwards to allow guests direct access to the sea, including a steam room, showers, a bar cabinet and lounge.

The essence of M/Y Harmony’s refit lies in the ability to realise and interpret a technical and architectural project, tailor-made to client requirements, in a very short time. The experience and trust that deepened between the Imperial management team and the Amico production team as the project proceeded allowed us to maintain a high quality contractual, managerial and technical rapport, efficient in terms of technical analysis, decision-making and problem-solving, with no delays to the production schedule.

The sequential refit phases, after design and technical definition, included the dismantling of all systems and interferences, demolition of the existing stern section and reconstruction of new stern blocks, with installation and welding on board. Successively, the new stern door was constructed and installed, together with the new passarelle and Opacmare transformer swimming platform. Following surface preparation, fairing and painting, the two technical spaces – stbd and port – were outfitted with new watertight doors and the new systems for the new equipment and luxury amenities – steam room system, showers, AV system and so on – were installed. Lastly, the existing on board systems interested by the demolition were restored.

Simultaneously with these major structural modifications, new AV/IT systems and new radio and navigation equipment were installed and diesel generators replaced.

On the bridge deck, removal of the bar and TV unit allowed the layout to be enriched with a piano and a branded lounge, fully equipped as a cinema.

A new external furniture layout was created and a full interior refit was performed: in the guest cabins and bathrooms, with particular attention to the Owner’s area, all soft furnishings were substituted, together with bedheads, tops and wardrobe facilities. New design of the TV units was enabled by using new technologies, architectural and decorative lights were changed and decorations and artworks enriched. All the fittings and hardware were removed and replaced with special items, featuring unique metal and crystal craftsmanship. Both the salons were given a completely new lease of life: on the main deck, new and full depth was given to the lounge area by removing a fire door and all freestanding furniture was upgraded to provide a modern, sober, masculine but gentle style, upholstered with custom fabrics. On the bridge deck, removal of the bar and TV unit allowed the layout to be enriched with a piano and a branded lounge, fully equipped as a cinema.

Precious products of luxury Italian brands Baldi, Fendi, Visionnaire and Giorgetti, unique materials such as onyx, authentic gold leaf, exclusive Tai Ping carpets, natural fabrics and leathers from all over the world, and prestigious details of excellence such as Lalique, Daum and THG were blended in complete harmony with the existing core of the vessel.
